The beloved Addams Family’s Wednesday has taken over the internet with quite a storm.
Fresh off the shelves of Netflix making its debut on November 23rd Wednesday clocked 341.23 million hours of viewership vastly surpassing that of the 4th season of Stranger Things creating a record of sorts.
The supernatural mystery Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega and centered on the adored and macabre Addams’s daughter, has surpassed all other English-language TV shows on Netflix in terms of weekly viewers.
All eight episodes of “Wednesday” debuted on Wednesday, November 23, the day before Thanksgiving, which was only fitting. Although the holiday may have increased viewership, the show still outperformed all expectations.
More than 50 million households streamed “Wednesday”, which has made its way to the Top #1 position in 83 countries.
Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer,” which dominated the Netflix Top 10 for weeks, only approached the 300 million viewing hours mark at its peak when compared to other popular Netflix shows.
With 335 million hours watched in a single week during its second week on the chart in late May, “Stranger Things 4” came even closer.
In comparison, Tim Burton’s “Wednesday” broke the records held by both “Dahmer” and “Stranger Things 4” which had the most viewings only from their 2nd week onwards, by having the maximum number of viewings since its launching week.
The series centers on the precocious and unyielding daughter of the Addams family who is sent off to Nevermore Academy, the boarding school where her parents first met and fell in love. Being the teenage misanthrope that she is, Wednesday is unhappy with this new development and, naturally, upset with her mother.
A murder mystery, an unlikely friendship, a blossoming love affair, and a small town full of secrets, werewolves, serpents, vampires, and monsters are all explored in this black comedy.
The “Wednesday” cast also includes Gwendoline Christie as Principal Larissa Weems, Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott, Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams.
The series is receiving positive reviews from critics, who praise director Tim Burton’s artistic and inventive approach to the material as well as Jenna Ortega’s standout performance as the titular Wednesday, the series’ central character.
